Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
DBT for Behavioral Issues & Co-Occurring Disorders
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a proven intervention for treating co-occurring disorders that draws on elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness meditation. Using DBT, clients learn how to regulate their emotions to reduce self-destructive behaviors that derive from intense or extreme emotions. A proven and effective treatment for both mental health issues and substance abuse, DBT can be easily customized to an individual treatment plan.
DBT focuses on the development of four key skills:
- Distress tolerance
- Emotion regulation
- Mindfulness (living in the moment and fully experiencing emotions)
- Interpersonal effectiveness
