Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

(DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a proven intervention for treating co-occurring disorders that draws on elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness meditation. Using DBT, clients learn how to regulate their emotions to reduce self-destructive behaviors that derive from intense or extreme emotions.  A proven and effective treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues, DBT can be easily customized to an individual treatment plan.

DBT focuses on the development of four key skills:

  • Distress tolerance
  • Emotion regulation
  • Mindfulness (living in the moment and fully experiencing emotions)
  • Interpersonal effectiveness
